Google Plans to Move All Pixel Production Out of China by 2027
Google has reportedly told suppliers that it wants all Pixel smartphones, smartwatches and wireless earbuds manufactured outside China, with Vietnam and India expected to play major roles.

Google is reportedly preparing for a major restructuring of its hardware supply chain, with plans to move all Pixel production out of China by 2027. According to reports citing Nikkei Asia, Google has informed suppliers that production of Pixel smartphones, smartwatches and wireless earbuds will shift outside China beginning next year. The move comes as U.S.-China tensions continue to encourage technology companies to diversify manufacturing.
Vietnam and India are expected to become the main beneficiaries of the transition. Google has already expanded manufacturing capacity in both countries, and the company reportedly began developing and producing high-end Pixel smartphones in Vietnam this year. Successfully moving more complicated premium phone production to Vietnam has apparently given Google greater confidence that it can complete the broader transition by 2027.
India is also becoming increasingly important to Google’s hardware strategy. Google announced in 2023 that it would manufacture Pixel smartphones in India, beginning with the Pixel 8, and production subsequently expanded through local manufacturing partners. India’s government has also introduced additional incentives and investment programs aimed at strengthening the country’s electronics and mobile-phone manufacturing ecosystem.
The decision would make Google one of the major smartphone companies to significantly reduce its dependence on Chinese manufacturing. Samsung has already moved most of its smartphone production away from China, while Apple has expanded iPhone manufacturing in India but continues to maintain production in China. Google’s relatively limited presence in China’s consumer smartphone market could make its supply-chain transition easier than Apple’s.
The shift also reflects a broader transformation in global electronics manufacturing. Companies are increasingly looking for production networks spread across several countries to reduce exposure to geopolitical tensions, tariffs, supply disruptions and changing trade policies. For Google, moving Pixel production to Vietnam and India could provide greater flexibility while allowing the company to increase production as it targets stronger Pixel sales. If completed as planned, 2027 could mark the end of Google’s Pixel manufacturing operations in China and a major expansion of its Asian production network outside the country.
