Osborn Umahi Makes History in Ohaozara, Pledges to Forgo Salary

Engr. Osborn Nweze Umahi has emerged chairman of Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the council’s political leadership.
At 28, Umahi is set to become one of the youngest figures to lead the local government, following a campaign built around youth participation, development and a more business-oriented approach to grassroots administration.
Umahi, the son of Minister of Works and former Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi, contested on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Following his victory, Umahi said his administration would focus on development rather than personal financial benefit, declaring that he would not receive salaries or allowances throughout his tenure as chairman.
According to him, his decision is intended to demonstrate his commitment to public service and ensure that available resources are directed toward projects and programmes capable of improving the lives of Ohaozara residents.
“I came to develop Ohaozara, not to make money,” Umahi said while outlining the direction of his incoming administration.
His emergence is expected to place increased attention on youth participation in grassroots governance, particularly as residents look forward to his promises on infrastructure, economic opportunities and community development.
The development also adds another chapter to the Umahi family’s involvement in public service in Ebonyi State.
