The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested three suspected drug dealers and recovered 5,676 pieces of suspected illicit substances during a series of intelligence-led operations carried out across the state. Police said the raids were aimed at dismantling drug distribution networks and curbing the growing abuse of prohibited substances, which authorities described as a major contributor to crime and social unrest.

According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the suspects were identified as Umar Rabiu, 22, of Unguwar Gamji; Auwalu Muhammad, 25, of Gusau Quarters; and Umar Akilu, 25, of Kuka village. Officers recovered 3,833 Exol tablets, 204 Tramadol tablets, 919 Diazepam tablets, 114 Pregabalin capsules, 101 containers of rubber solution, 30 Lara capsules, bottles of codeine syrup, two litres of a substance known as “Suck and Die,” one block and 475 wraps of suspected cannabis, as well as ₦93,626, believed to be proceeds from drug sales.

Police said the suspects have since been arraigned in court, while investigations continue to uncover other individuals linked to the illicit drug trade. The Commissioner of Police commended the operatives for the successful operation, stressing that drug trafficking and abuse remain key drivers of violent crime, especially among young people. He warned those involved in the sale, distribution or consumption of banned substances to abandon the practice or face prosecution.

The command reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining intelligence-led policing and expanding operations against criminal networks operating across Jigawa State. Residents were encouraged to provide timely information that could assist security agencies in identifying drug traffickers and preventing the circulation of illicit substances in local communities.
