A suspected cable vandal has died after he was allegedly electrocuted while attempting to cut a high-tension electricity cable along the Ringim–Sintilimawa Road in Jigawa State. The incident, which occurred on July 31 at about 9:00 a.m., comes amid growing concerns over repeated attacks on critical public infrastructure across the state.

The Jigawa State Police Command said officers responded after receiving a distress call about a motionless body lying by the roadside. According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Shi’isu Adam, police found severe burn injuries on the deceased’s hands, chest and pelvic area. Officers also recovered a pair of hand gloves, a hacksaw and sacks believed to have been used during the attempted vandalism.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect was electrocuted while allegedly trying to tamper with the high-voltage cable. The incident follows another recent case in Ringim, where suspected vandals reportedly overpowered security guards and stole 12 metres of armoured cable from a transformer serving Government Unity School, leaving the facility without electricity.

Police said investigations are continuing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident while urging residents to protect public infrastructure and report suspicious activities to security agencies. Authorities also warned that vandalising electrical installations is both a criminal offence and a life-threatening act with potentially fatal consequences.
