The Ogun State Police Command has rescued seven kidnapping victims and killed three suspected kidnappers during a coordinated operation involving the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the Department of State Services and other security agencies. The command, led by Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni, said 38 suspects have also been arrested in separate operations involving alleged criminal activities across the state.

The seven victims were abducted at about 7:40 p.m. on July 29, 2026, along Paraga Street in Ipara. Following the incident, security operatives began intelligence gathering and surveillance to locate the victims. A police helicopter was deployed on Aug. 3 after Gov. Dapo Abiodun requested aerial support from Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu. The combined operation eventually led to the victims’ rescue, with one victim who sustained a gunshot injury receiving treatment at the Police Hospital.

Police subsequently intensified the search for members of the gang who escaped. At about 2 a.m. on Aug. 6, operatives supported by DSS personnel stormed a suspected hideout along the Sagamu-Abeokuta Expressway after receiving credible intelligence. The suspects reportedly engaged the security team in a gun battle, resulting in the deaths of three suspected kidnappers, while other gang members escaped with possible gunshot injuries.

The operation also yielded the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, an empty magazine, four mobile phones and N2.3 million in cash. The bodies of the three suspects were deposited at the State Hospital Morgue in Ijaiye, Abeokuta, for autopsy. Police said intelligence gathering and coordinated operations have been intensified to track down the fleeing members of the gang.
