Nvidia Invests $3.5 Billion in MediaTek

The major investment deepens Nvidia’s partnership with MediaTek as both companies expand their push into AI infrastructure, PCs and intelligent vehicles.

Nvidia has invested $3.5 billion in convertible bonds issued by Taiwan-based chipmaker MediaTek, strengthening a partnership that is becoming increasingly important to both companies. The investment was announced on August 31, 2026, alongside plans to expand cooperation across AI data centers, local computing and automotive technology.

A major part of the expanded partnership involves Nvidia’s NVLink Fusion platform. MediaTek will use the technology to help customers develop custom AI accelerators, known as XPUs, that can connect with Nvidia’s NVLink-enabled, rack-scale AI systems. This could allow cloud providers and AI developers to combine customized chips with Nvidia’s broader computing infrastructure.

The companies are also targeting the rapidly growing market for AI-powered personal computers. Nvidia and MediaTek have already been working together on RTX Spark and DGX Spark chips, combining Nvidia’s graphics and AI technology with MediaTek’s system-on-chip expertise. The goal is to bring powerful AI capabilities to consumer PCs, workstations and other local computing devices.

Automotive technology is another major area of cooperation. Nvidia and MediaTek plan to continue developing platforms for AI-powered, software-defined vehicles, reflecting the industry’s shift toward cars that rely increasingly on advanced computing, connectivity and AI. MediaTek brings expertise in power-efficient chips and connectivity, while Nvidia contributes its accelerated-computing and AI platforms.

The investment also highlights Nvidia’s increasingly influential role across the AI semiconductor ecosystem. Rather than simply selling GPUs and related technology, Nvidia is increasingly investing in companies whose products can expand the use of its platforms. While that strategy can accelerate AI infrastructure development, it has also attracted investor attention over concerns about potential circular financing within the AI industry.
