TMY News is reporting that Osborn Nweze Umahi has been sworn in as Chairman of Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, formally beginning his tenure following the recently concluded local government election.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by dignitaries and political stakeholders, with Nigeria’s Minister of Works and former Governor of Ebonyi State, Senator David Umahi, present as a special guest. David Umahi is the father of the newly inaugurated council chairman.

Osborn, 28, contested the Ohaozara chairmanship election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and was declared winner following the August 22 local government polls. The APC secured all 13 chairmanship seats in Ebonyi State in the election.
His emergence has attracted considerable attention because of his age and political background. Before entering elective politics, Osborn built a profile in business and engineering. He studied Civil Engineering in the United Kingdom and later obtained a postgraduate qualification in finance from the University of Aberdeen in Scotland.
Following his election, Osborn announced that he would forgo his statutory salary and allowances during his tenure, saying his focus would be on development and public service. He has identified infrastructure, youth empowerment, economic opportunities, agriculture and improved grassroots services among the priorities of his administration.
His inauguration now moves the conversation from the election campaign to governance, with residents of Ohaozara expected to closely watch how the new administration translates its commitments into projects and programmes across communities in the local government.
The presence of Senator David Umahi at the ceremony also drew attention, marking a significant political moment for the Umahi family. The Works Minister served as Governor of Ebonyi State from 2015 to 2023 before joining the Federal Executive Council.
Osborn’s assumption of office comes amid wider interest in the participation of younger Nigerians in elective leadership, particularly at the grassroots level.
