The Ademola Adeleke Campaign Council has alleged that there are plans to arrest 46 leaders of the Accord Partyahead of the August 15 Osun State governorship election, claiming the move is aimed at preventing them from participating in the poll. The allegation was made on Sunday in Osogbo by the campaign’s Deputy Director-General, Kolapo Alimi, who said the council had obtained a list of party members allegedly marked for arrest on what it described as fabricated charges.

According to the campaign, the individuals on the alleged list could be transferred to Abuja during the election period, a move it said would amount to political intimidation. Alimi called on the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to direct the Osun State Police Command, the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) and other special police units to refrain from arresting or harassing opposition figures without lawful justification.

The council also condemned the arrest of one of its members, Taofeek Akinyemi, in Ikire, describing the action as politically motivated. It claimed Akinyemi had previously reported an attack against him to security agencies after surviving a shooting incident, but was later taken into custody following a social media post in which he identified those he believed were responsible. The campaign insisted he should either be released immediately or charged before a competent court if there is credible evidence against him.

As political activities intensify ahead of the governorship election, the campaign urged security agencies to remain impartial and ensure all parties are allowed to participate freely in the democratic process. As of the time of the allegation, the police had not issued an official response to the claims.
