Troops of the 1 Brigade, Nigerian Army, operating under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have arrested three suspected gun runners and rescued six victims in separate operations across Zamfara State. The operations were carried out along the Kauran Namoda–Shinkafi and Anka–Gummi axes on Sunday, August 23, 2026. 

During a stop-and-search operation on the Kauran Namoda–Shinkafi Road, troops intercepted a Golf Wagon carrying three suspected gun runners identified as Lukman Sulaiman, 20; Nafiu Isa, 18; and Adamu Lawali, 60. The Army said an AK-103-2 rifle, one magazine and 30 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition were recovered after being concealed inside a bag of millet in the vehicle.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the weapon was allegedly being transported to Yar-Galadima in Maru Local Government Area. The two younger suspects reportedly told investigators that an Alhaji in Gusau had provided money for the millet used to conceal the firearm and alleged that it was intended for delivery to a man identified as Tijjani Goguwa. The suspects, weapon, ammunition and vehicle remain in custody as efforts continue to arrest the alleged recipient.

In a separate operation at Gadan Manya along the Anka–Gummi Main Supply Route, surveillance cameras detected suspected terrorists attacking a vehicle and attempting to force its occupants into the bush. Troops quickly mobilised and engaged the attackers, forcing them to flee and abandon all six victims. The rescued persons were taken to General Hospital Anka, where three were treated for minor injuries and reported to be in stable condition.
