Bandits have reportedly killed the District Head of Galla under the Borgu Emirate in Niger State during an attack on his palace. The incident has heightened security concerns in the area, where communities have continued to face attacks and abductions by armed groups.

According to reports, the traditional ruler was allegedly targeted after warning bandits to stop entering the community. The monarch was reportedly attacked at his palace, where the assailants killed him before fleeing the area.

The deceased traditional ruler was also reported to be a brother to the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi. The development comes amid renewed security challenges in parts of Borgu, particularly communities located close to the Nigeria-Benin border.

The wider area has recently witnessed attacks and abductions, prompting the Nigerian Army to deploy troops and launch efforts to rescue residents abducted in nearby communities. Security operations are ongoing as authorities work to track criminal elements operating in the difficult terrain around the Kainji Lake National Park.
