Ghanaian police have foiled an alleged attempt to rob three banks in Labone, Accra, killing two suspected members of a robbery syndicate and arresting another. The arrested suspect was identified as Augustine Okechuku Maazi, who is now assisting investigators with the case.

According to the Ghana Police Service, officers confronted the suspected robbers during the operation, resulting in a shootout that left two suspects dead. The bodies were taken to a morgue for preservation, identification and autopsy as investigations continue into the planned robbery.

Police said operatives recovered two vehicles believed to have been used in the operation — a Toyota Highlander with registration number GS-1434-18 and a Hyundai Tucson with registration number GS 7915-17. A pistol was also recovered at the scene.

The Ghana Police Service commended the response team for preventing the planned attack and urged members of the public to continue providing credible information about criminal activities. Maazi remains in custody while authorities work to establish the identities of the deceased suspects and determine the full circumstances of the attempted robbery.
