Senior Terrorist Operative Gives Up Arms Following Military Offensive
The chief finance operative of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has surrendered to troops of Operation Hadin Kai in Borno State, handing over weapons, ammunition, a motorcycle and ₦40,000 in cash.
According to the Acting Media Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Capt. Mohammed Goni, the terrorist surrendered at about 6:45 a.m. on July 25, 2026, to troops of the 3 Battalion under the 24 Task Force Brigade.
The surrender took place along the Ladari–Jegarawa–Tunokalia axis on the Gamboru–Wulgo Main Supply Route and follows a series of coordinated land and air operations carried out by the military against terrorist enclaves.
Weapons, Ammunition Recovered
Capt. Goni said the surrendered operative handed over one AK-47 rifle, four magazines, 101 rounds of 7.62 mm special ammunition, one motorcycle and ₦40,000.
He added that the suspect surrendered alongside two male children and is currently undergoing profiling and interrogation.
“Preliminary profiling indicates that the terrorist served as the Chief finance operative of the ISWAP enclave at Jubillaram, where he was responsible for managing the group’s financial activities and logistics,” Goni said.
According to the military, intelligence obtained during the ongoing interrogation is expected to support future operations and help identify and target remaining terrorist elements within the theatre.
Military Records More Terrorist Surrenders
The military spokesperson said the latest surrender comes amid an increase in the number of terrorists laying down their arms following sustained military pressure.
He disclosed that about 46 terrorists and their family members have voluntarily surrendered to troops in recent days as operations continue against terrorist strongholds.
Goni described the surrender of the senior finance operative as a significant blow to ISWAP, saying it reflects the weakening of the group’s leadership structure, operational capacity and logistics network under the sustained offensive by Operation Hadin Kai.
He added that the growing number of defections indicates increasing disillusionment among members of the terrorist group.
Operation Hadin Kai Appeals to Remaining Terrorists
Operation Hadin Kai reiterated its commitment to restoring lasting peace, security and stability across the North-East.
The Theatre Command also urged remaining terrorists to embrace the Federal Government’s non-kinetic initiatives by surrendering their weapons before it is too late.
It further appealed to members of the public to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information to strengthen ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
