Meta Unveils Muse Image, Its Most Advanced AI Photo Creation Tool Yet
Meta has introduced Muse Image, a new artificial intelligence-powered image generation model designed to make creating and editing photos faster, smarter, and more natural.

Meta has introduced Muse Image, a new artificial intelligence-powered image generation model designed to make creating and editing photos faster, smarter, and more natural. The tool is being rolled out across Meta AI and will power creative features in Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook, Messenger, and Meta’s advertising platforms.
Unlike traditional AI image generators that rely on simple text prompts, Muse Image uses advanced reasoning to better understand what users want. It can interpret detailed instructions, combine multiple reference images, edit existing photos, and even generate clear, readable text within images—something that has been a challenge for many AI models.
One of the standout features is its ability to act more like an intelligent assistant than a basic image generator. Before creating an image, Muse Image analyses the request, plans the composition, and refines the result automatically. Users can continue improving an image through natural conversation, without having to start over each time they want to make changes.
Meta has also integrated Muse Image into several of its social platforms. Instagram users will gain access to more than 30 AI-powered Story effects, while WhatsApp users in selected countries can generate images directly within chats. Support for Facebook and Messenger will follow, and advertisers will soon be able to use the technology through Meta’s Advantage+ creative tools to quickly produce marketing visuals.
Another major improvement is the model’s ability to work with real-world context. It can combine photos, redesign rooms, create invitations, generate infographics, and produce visuals with properly formatted text. Meta says this makes the tool useful not only for casual users but also for businesses, marketers, and content creators looking to speed up visual production.
To encourage responsible AI use, Meta is embedding invisible “Content Seal” watermarks into images created with Muse Image. These digital markers are designed to identify AI-generated content even after an image has been cropped or compressed, helping improve transparency as AI-generated media becomes more widespread.
The launch, however, has not been without controversy. Meta initially introduced a feature allowing users to reference public Instagram accounts when generating AI images. Following criticism from users and privacy advocates, the company quickly removed the capability, saying it had listened to feedback and wanted to give people greater control over how their public content could be used in AI-powered creations.
Muse Image is Meta’s first in-house AI image generation model developed by its Meta Superintelligence Labs. The company says it marks a significant step toward creating more intelligent, personalised AI tools that can understand context, remember conversations, and help users bring creative ideas to life with minimal effort. While the basic version is available for free through Meta AI, additional image-generation capacity will be offered through Meta’s subscription plans.
