Nigerian Army Rescues Two Abducted Victims During Taraba Patrol

Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke have rescued two kidnap victims during a fighting patrol in Lau Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The rescue operation was carried out in the early hours of Sunday, July 26, 2026, following credible intelligence on the activities of armed criminals around the Lande Jessi general area.

In a statement shared on X on Sunday, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, said troops acted swiftly after receiving reports that suspected criminals had invaded the Tashan Musa and Barkindan Fulani communities, where they abducted two residents and carted away food items.

Victims Reunited With Families

According to the Army, the troops launched a search-and-rescue mission that led to the successful recovery of the two victims, identified as Mr Usman Mohammed and Mr Usman Harusu. The victims were said to have spent about one week in captivity before being rescued.

Following the operation, both men were reunited with their families, while troops continue security operations to enhance safety across the affected communities.

Brigade Commander Commends Troops

The Commander of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Akaliro, praised the troops for their professionalism and prompt response during the operation.

“The successful rescue is a clear demonstration of the troops’ commitment to safeguarding lives and property within the state,” Akaliro said.

He noted that the operation aligns with the directive of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, to decisively combat criminal activities and restore peace across the country.

Akaliro also urged the troops to remain vigilant and sustain ongoing operations against criminal elements.

“We must continue to maintain the tempo and ensure that criminal elements have no space to operate within our area of responsibility,” he said.

The Brigade Commander further reassured residents of the Nigerian Army’s commitment to protecting law-abiding citizens and appealed for continued public support through the timely provision of credible information to security agencies.
