The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra State Command, has arrested a man identified as Sunday Ukeh over the alleged possession of a truck loaded with 45,000 litres of suspected adulterated Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).

The suspect is also accused of attempting to assault NSCDC operatives while resisting arrest during the operation.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the Head of Media and Tactical Operations of the NSCDC Anambra State Command, Edwin Okadigbo, the suspect and the truck were intercepted on Sunday at Amansea along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway in Awka by the command’s Anti-Vandalism Squad during a proactive intelligence-led operation.

Suspect Allegedly Tried to Evade Arrest

Okadigbo said the suspect, who is from Odume in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State, allegedly ignored instructions to stop after being flagged down on suspicion of involvement in adulterated petroleum products racketeering.

The statement said the suspect instead attempted to drive through the officers, nearly running over members of the Anti-Vandalism Squad.

“On Sunday, July 26, 2026, at about 1100hrs, the Anti-Vandalism Squad headed by CSC Nwosu Christian, while on a proactive operation driven by intelligence, intercepted a truck allegedly laden with 45,000 litres of suspected adulterated Premium Motor Spirit at Amansea, along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, Awka.

“The suspect, Sunday Ukeh, from Odume in Awgu LGA of Enugu State, was flagged down by the Anti-Vandalism Squad on reasonable suspicion of adulterated petroleum products racketeering, but he refused to stop and attempted to drive through the personnel, almost running over members of the team.”

Truck Impounded for Investigation

The NSCDC said a pursuit followed before the truck was eventually stopped at the Military Checkpoint in Amansea.

According to the statement, the suspect allegedly attempted to assault one of the operatives after his interception before he was subdued and taken into custody.

“A hot chase ensued, and the suspect was successfully intercepted at the Military Checkpoint, Amansea. Upon interception, he made an attempt to assault one of the Anti-Vandal personnel.

“The suspect was subsequently subdued and taken into custody. Preliminary investigation indicates several discrepancies in the waybill presented by the suspect. Both the truck and the product have been impounded for further investigation.”

NSCDC Warns Against Attacks on Personnel

The command stressed that it would not tolerate attacks on its officers while carrying out lawful duties, warning that anyone found assaulting NSCDC personnel would be prosecuted.

It also commended the Anti-Vandalism Squad for its professionalism and reaffirmed its commitment to combating illegal activities in the petroleum sector across Anambra State.
