Police Arrest Four Over Alleged Truck Hijacking in Oyo
Oyo State Police say an intelligence-led operation led to the arrest of four suspects and the recovery of a truck allegedly hijacked along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The Oyo State Police Command has arrested four suspects over the alleged hijacking, diversion and theft of trucks in the state. Police said the arrests followed intelligence and information from members of the public indicating that a suspected criminal group was planning another operation on August 24.
According to police spokesperson DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the Commissioner of Police directed operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) to conduct an intelligence-led stop-and-search operation along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. During the operation, officers intercepted a white SINO HOWO truck and arrested two suspects.
Police said preliminary investigations indicated that the truck had allegedly been hijacked and was being moved toward the Ogbomoso/Ilorin axis for possible delivery to a criminal receiver. The vehicle’s detachable rear body had reportedly been removed before it was intercepted. Further investigations later led to the arrest of two additional suspects.
Investigators also alleged that members of the group played different roles in the suspected operation, including driving diverted vehicles and removing tracking devices and other electronic equipment that could help authorities locate stolen trucks. Police said efforts were continuing to recover the missing part of the truck and identify other possible suspects.
The Oyo State Police Command commended members of the public for providing information that contributed to the operation and reiterated its commitment to intelligence-led policing. The suspects remain accused, and the allegations against them are subject to investigation and due legal process.
