The Nigeria Police Force says its operatives rescued 15 kidnap victims, foiled a bandit attack and arrested several suspects during coordinated operations across seven states. The successes were recorded between Aug. 9 and 10, 2026, in Kogi, Benue, Bayelsa, Enugu, Ekiti, Ondo and Lagos states, according to Force Public Relations Officer CSP Ani Iniedu.

In Kogi, police-led security teams rescued the 15 victims after an intelligence-driven operation and extensive searches of surrounding bush areas. The operatives exchanged gunfire with the suspected kidnappers, killing some of the attackers while others escaped with gunshot wounds. The victims were subsequently debriefed and reunited with their families.

In Benue, tactical officers responding to a bandit attack in Tse Udi Community, Tombo Council Ward, killed one suspected bandit and recovered an AK-47 rifle loaded with 17 rounds. Police also arrested a suspect over a fatal shooting in Bayelsa and recovered a double-barrel gun, while an alleged armed robber was apprehended at a hotel in Enugu with a locally made pistol and live cartridge. Four suspected cultists were also arrested in Ekiti, where officers recovered a pistol, axes, cutlasses and knives.

Elsewhere, Ondo detectives arrested a suspect allegedly trying to sell a stolen Mercedes-Benz GLK, with police saying he confessed to stealing it from his employer in Lagos. In Lagos, police and firefighters contained a residential fire at Itire without casualties. The police said investigations into the various cases are ongoing and urged residents to continue providing credible information to security agencies.
