The Ogun State Police Command has dismantled a suspected baby factory in Abaren Village, Mowe, rescuing two pregnant women and four children while arresting six suspects. The operation was conducted on Monday, August 24, following intelligence on alleged human trafficking and illegal adoption activities at the facility.

The rescued women were identified as 23-year-old Ilesanmi Foluke, who was seven months pregnant, and 20-year-old Ejekwa Melody, who was eight months pregnant. The four children recovered from the premises comprised two boys and two girls. Police said the operation took place at about 8 a.m. at a suspected syndicate hideout on Toluwalase Street, Abaren Village.

The six suspects arrested were identified as Florence Glory Ogbona, 58; Magdalene Julius, 63; Chidike Egwuonwu, 40; Onyechu Chidike, 35; Stephen Ogbona, 39; and an attending nurse, Oseni Kusamotu Idaya. Police also traced the alleged syndicate to a hospital in the Mowe area, where another woman, 26-year-old Blessing Bright Effiong, had given birth to a baby boy on August 20. The whereabouts of the newborn could not be established, leading to the arrest of the attending nurse.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation. Police said detectives would determine the full extent of the alleged syndicate’s activities, locate the missing newborn and prosecute suspects found culpable. The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating human trafficking and child trading, while urging residents to report suspicious activities.
