The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 54-year-old primary school teacher, Garba Suleiman, over the alleged defilement of a 10-year-old girl in Yola South Local Government Area. The suspect, who is also a resident of Damare, was arrested after the victim’s family lodged a complaint at the Divisional Police Headquarters in Yola South. 

According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect allegedly lured the minor and had unlawful sexual intercourse with her. The police did not disclose further details about the circumstances surrounding the alleged offence or the identity of the victim.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, has ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yola, for discreet investigation and prosecution. The command said the move was aimed at ensuring that the allegations are thoroughly investigated and handled in accordance with the law.

The police commissioner condemned all forms of gender-based violence and assured the public that appropriate legal steps would be taken based on the outcome of the investigation. The allegation against Suleiman remains subject to due process and determination by the court.
