26 Rivers Assembly members withdraw impeachment notice against Gov. Fubara

26 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have withdrawn their notice of impeachment against Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

This was contained in the withdrawal notice read on the floor of the house on Wednesday.

The legislator stated that the decision was agreed upon because of respect for President Bola Tinubu who on Monday held a reconciliation meeting between the warring parties.

The 26 lawmakers seen to be loyal to the immediate former governor of the state Nyesom Wike sat at the House of Assembly Complex on Wednesday morning where the decision was read out.

TMY Newspapers reports that President Tinubu engineered a peace agreement between Fubara and his predecessor, Wike.

The acrimony in Rivers state allegedly comes from a power fight between Fubara and Wike, who is presently the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

“We will not proceed with this impeachment process, due to respect for President Tinubu,” said Factional Speaker Hon. Martins Amaewhule.
