4 Interesting things to do in Ibadan

Ibadan, Oyo State’s capital, is a vibrant and historically rich city in southwestern Nigeria

Known for its cultural legacy, gorgeous natural landscapes, and unique attractions, Ibadan, Oyo State’s capital, is a vibrant and historically rich city in southwestern Nigeria.

Often called the City of Brown Roofs, it’s one of the major cities in the country and, of course, one of the most serene places to be.

Unlike fast-paced cities like Lagos and Abuja, Ibadan has a more relaxed pace, making it the perfect place to visit when you need to take a break from the chaos of nearby cities like Lagos.

Here are five cool things to do on your next visit to Ibadan.

Visit Ado-awaye Mountains

You must come here prepared to hike and sweat it out. Ado-awaye is not just a community with amazing landscapes or the mysterious suspended lake known as the Iyake lake (the second in the world). It is a complete embodiment of historical and cultural stories. This destination is a must for adventure lovers.

Located in Iseyin Local Government area of Oyo State, the view from the top is nothing short of beautiful and there are seven wonders to be found as you make your way to the top.

Picnic at Agodi Gardens
A picnic with your friends at Agodi Gardens is something you can’t afford to miss. This green oasis of peace in Ibadan draws locals and travelers to its many attractions. Here, you can spot turtles, monkeys and peacocks at the Agodi Zoo, have a blast at the water park, stroll through the beautifully landscaped woods, go on a horse ride, and have a leisurely picnic on the lush lawn. You can also relieve your childhood in the playground. If you’re feeling adventurous, you and your friends can go paintballing right there!

You’ll need a ticket to enter Agodi Gardens and individual attractions might have separate charges—though admission is usually covered on a tour of Ibadan which often includes a stop at the gardens.

There is also music, games, laughter and fun meals at the gardens.

Horse riding at the Ibadan Polo Club
Located right in Eleyele in Ibadan, the prestigious Ibadan Polo Club is the right place to be if you’ve always wanted to check out the equestrian sport. Not only do you get the chance to witness some polo, but you can also go horseback riding for a small fee. The green hills and wide spacious fields make a pleasant landscape to ride.

Visit the hills
A little unknown fact about Ibadan is that it’s a city that has several hills. So while you’re here, why not visit them all? From Oke Mokola hills which seats Ibadan’s first hotel, Premier Hotels, to Oke Mapo, where the great Mapo Hall is located. You may even get to climb to the rooftop and get a nice aerial view of the city.
