As a certified sexologist with the American Board of Sexologists, Vera holds numerous qualifications, including being a master sexpert, relationship, and marriage counselor. Driven by her Christian faith, Vera also debunks widespread misconceptions about intimacy and sexuality. Her mission extends to training other professionals in the field through her program Let’s Talk About Sex. Married to Pastor Chikezie Oke and a mother of two, she blends her professional insights with a personal touch.
In an interview with newsmen , she shares her thoughts on the importance of advocating for beautiful sexual experiences during pregnancy:”Pregnancy often brings significant physical, emotional, and relational changes to the female body. In my years of practice, I’ve discovered that many women tend to halt or neglect their sexual lives due to factors ranging from fear to ignorance. By advocating for beautiful sexual experiences during pregnancy, we promote a holistic approach to maternal well-being, offering women a chance to feel loved, connected, and cherished during one of the most remarkable phases of life,” she explained.
She also addressed the detrimental impact of misconceptions surrounding pregnancy and sex:”Misconceptions about sex during pregnancy can profoundly impact the mental and emotional well-being of pregnant women, often leading to unnecessary stress, guilt, and detachment. Common myths, such as the idea that pregnancy diminishes sexual attractiveness or that intimacy is harmful to the baby, create fear, anxiety, and guilt for expecting mothers. These feelings can take a toll on their mental and emotional health.”
For couples navigating intimacy during pregnancy, Vera emphasized the importance of communication and creativity:
“Maintaining intimacy and connection during pregnancy requires open communication, creativity, and mutual understanding as couples navigate the physical, emotional, and relational changes of this journey. Discuss your emotions and desires, address fears together, and seek guidance if needed. Spend quality time nurturing your bond, practice gratitude, and create new rituals to express love and connection.”
Through her work, Vera Chikezie-Oke continues to help couples embrace intimacy as a key aspect of a healthy and fulfilling life.
