Police Arrest Man Over Alleged Cyberbullying of Adamawa First-Class Chiefs
31-year-old suspect accused of spreading offensive and unverified allegations on Facebook

The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 31-year-old man, Buriba Israel, over allegations of cyberbullying and criminal intimidation involving first-class chiefs of the Numan Federation. The suspect, a resident of Jambutu in Yola South Local Government Area, was reportedly arrested following a formal complaint and subsequent police investigation.
According to the police, preliminary investigations showed that Israel allegedly used his Facebook account to create and circulate social media posts containing accusations against the traditional rulers. The command said the publications were considered offensive, disparaging and capable of undermining the reputation and dignity of the chiefs.
Police spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said relevant electronic devices and other materials allegedly connected to the offences had been recovered and were undergoing forensic examination as investigations continue. He stressed that although citizens have a right to freedom of expression, such rights must be exercised responsibly and within the confines of the law.
The Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, CP Kabir Hassan, has directed a thorough investigation into the matter and ordered that the suspect face appropriate legal action if found culpable. The command also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting traditional institutions and preventing the misuse of social media for cyberbullying, criminal intimidation and the spread of harmful content.
