Amorim set for talks with ‘legend’ van Nistelrooy

Ruben Amorim revealed that he will have a chat with Manchester United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy once he arrives at the club on Monday.

Former Dutch international and Old Trafford icon Van Nistelrooy returned to the club after almost two decades this summer as he joined Erik ten Hag’s coaching staff. He took charge of the team on an interim basis after Ten Hag was sacked last month and in the four games he managed, United won three and drew one match.

The Dutchman had earlier expressed his desire to continue at the club even after incoming head coach Ruben Amorim arrived. After his final game in charge of Sporting CP – where the club came back from behind to beat Braga 4-2 – the Portuguese suggested that he will have a chat with Van Nistelrooy once he arrives in Manchester on Monday. The 39-year-old has already informed the club that he wants his assistant coaches, Emanuel Ferro, Adelio Candido, and Carlos Fernandes in his six-member backroom staff at United.

Speaking to The Athletic, Amorim said, “About a legend of the club. He did a great job. I have to talk with him tomorrow. Then I will explain everything. I am very clear and I will tell you like it is. Let’s wait until tomorrow.”

The former Sporting CP boss’ first game in charge at Old Trafford will be against Ipswich Town after the international break on November 24 in an away Premier League fixture.
