APC alleges ballot box snatching, rigging as PDP sweeps Bauchi LG polls

The All Progressives Congress (APC), has rejected the outcome of the Local Government polls in Bauchi State.

This comes after the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won all the 20 chairmanship seats in the election.

Chairman of the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC), Ahmed Makama, announced the results on Saturday.

Makama said the polls held peacefully across the state.

“For the chairmanship election, PDP won all the 20 seats as declared at the local government levels,” he stated.

“And for the councillors, the results were declared in the wards with other parties emerging victorious.”

Makama said the commission would issue the winners with their certificates of return on Sunday.

The election is the first held in the wake of the recent judgment of the supreme court which affirmed local government autonomy.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Muhammad Hassan, APC chairman in the state, described the election as a “murder of democracy”.

He cited alleged irregularities, including inadequate election materials, withheld sensitive materials and result sheets, and votes allocation to the ruling PDP.

Hassan also alleged an absence of returning officers and the abandonment of election materials at the polling units.

“There were also instances of ballot box snatching, massive thumb printing of ballot papers for PDP and votes allocation to PDP candidates across all the local governments,” Hassan alleged.
