APC leadership urges Tinubu to appoint minister from Plateau

Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Plateau State, organized under the group ‘Plateau APC Likes Mind,’ are frustrated by the lack of a ministerial appointment from their state. Eight months have passed since former governor Senator Simon Lalong resigned as a minister to assume his seat in the Senate. They have urged President Tinubu to adhere to constitutional requirements by appointing a minister from Plateau State.

The group, in a statement signed by its leader, Hon. Hassan Isa Maimadara, commended the president for his leadership style and vision for a prosperous Nigeria. They emphasized the need to appoint a minister from Plateau State to complement and enhance the president’s efforts.

“We recall with pride the pivotal role Plateau State played in your electoral success, delivering an impressive 307,195 votes—exceeding the 25% requirement and surpassing many other states.”

“However, we humbly bring to your attention the urgent need to appoint a minister from Plateau State to fill the vacancy that has existed for over eight months. This absence has left our state without representation in the Federal Executive Council, despite our significant contribution to your electoral success.

“Mr. President, we respectfully remind you that Section 147 of the Constitution’s Fifth Alteration mandates that each state must have at least one minister representing it in the Federal Executive Council. Unfortunately, Plateau State’s lack of representation has left us under-represented,” they said.

The group also noted that the APC has two senators, five members of the House of Representatives, and 22 members of the House of Assembly. However, they pointed out that six of the House of Assembly members have not yet been sworn in, which they described as “very unfortunate.”

It further appealed to President Tinubu’s sense of justice and inclusivity to address this imbalance, recommending their governorship candidate, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, for the position. They cited his unwavering commitment to the party’s ideals and his suitability to unite both the state and the party.

The Plateau APC Like-Minded assured President Tinubu of their steadfast support for his vision and pledged to work tirelessly to ensure the success of his administration.
