Former Super Eagles stars, Tijani Babangida and Brown Ideye, have thrown their full weight behind newly appointed coach Eric Chelle to qualify the Nigerian senior soccer team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup

Babangida, who played at the 1998 World Cup in France, stated that judging by the Super Eagles poor display in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, it will be difficult for Nigeria to qualify for the World Cup, but noted that it was important for all hands to be on deck to make things work for the Super Eagles.

“We should support the new coach, wish him well and see that we qualify for the World Cup,” said Babangida.

“We have our backs to the wall now, let’s see what the boys can do. We’re in a difficult situation, but I also know that Nigerians always bounce back.”

Also speaking, Brown Ideye, drummed up support for the Franco-Malian tactician.

“He has been appointed and we will give him our support,” I dey said.

“Let’s give him a chance because I believe we can turn things around. The players must also do their best for us to qualify. Nigeria must not miss this World Cup.”
