Bauchi Police Arrest Man Over Alleged Abuse of Infant Stepdaughter
Police in Bauchi State have arrested a man following an allegation involving his eight-month-old stepdaughter, with investigators now handling the case.
The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Balarabe Adamu over an allegation involving his eight-month-old stepdaughter in Toro Local Government Area of the state. Police said the incident was reported on Wednesday, August 26, at about 5:34 p.m.
According to the police statement, Adamu, a resident of Lame in Toro LGA, allegedly abused the infant after the child was brought to his residence by his wife. Following the report, officers from the Gumau Police Division responded and arrested the suspect.
The infant was taken to General Hospital, Toro, for medical examination and treatment. Police said the suspect remains in custody while investigators work to establish the circumstances surrounding the allegation and gather the necessary evidence.
Bauchi State Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu condemned the alleged abuse and directed that the matter be thoroughly investigated. He said the suspect would be taken to court after the investigation is completed, in accordance with the law.
The police command reiterated its zero-tolerance position on child abuse and sexual violence, urging parents, guardians and community members to remain vigilant and promptly report suspected abuse involving children. The case remains an allegation, and the suspect’s guilt must be determined through due legal process.
