Bobrisky Loses ₦1 Billion Lawsuit Against EFCC, NASS
A Federal High Court in Lagos State has dismissed a fundamental rights suit filed by crossdresser Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, popularly known as Bobrisky, against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Bobrisky had sought ₦100 million from the EFCC for psychological trauma and demanded ₦1 billion from the National Assembly for violating his right to a fair hearing.
Additionally, he requested that the court restrain both the EFCC and the National Assembly from harassing, detaining, or declaring him wanted.
The crossdresser has been at the center of controversy following the leak of an audio recording by social media influencer Martins Otse, which alleged that he paid the EFCC ₦15 million to drop money laundering charges against him.
While delivering the judgment on the case, Justice Alexander Owoeye determined that Bobrisky’s claims of rights violations were without merit and unsupported by credible evidence.
The EFCC’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, provided this information in a statement on Friday.
“Having evaluated the evidence submitted before this Court by the Applicant, it is clear that he has failed to provide the credible evidence necessary to justify the declaratory and injunctive reliefs he sought. I hold that the claims of violation of fundamental rights against the 1st and 2nd Respondents were not substantiated by the affidavit evidence presented to this Court. The Applicant’s claims against the 1st and 2nd Respondents lack merit and are therefore dismissed,” the judge stated.
Justice Owoeye also declined to award damages against the EFCC.
