Dele Momodu, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, has slammed the National Assembly, over the removal of Senator Ali Ndume as the Chief Whip of the upper chamber.
Ndume, senator representing Borno South Senatorial District, in an interview on BBC Hausa, had said President Bola Ahmed is being “caged” by those around him in the Presidential Villa.
Afterwards, the senator, also said some lawmakers and ministers are being denied access to the president for advice, over the food and cost of living crisis faced by Nigerians.
Spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Felix Morka, in a reply, accused Ndume of seeking media attention, which he said would not offer him any help.
However, during plenary on Wednesday, senate President Godswill Akpabio, read a communication from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), demanding Ndume’s replacement.
The letter, signed by APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, accused the lawmaker of activism and putting out acts that aimed to destroy the ruling party.
The letter further demanded that senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno representing Borno North, should replace Ndume.
Akpabio called on the APC caucus to vote on the demand of the APC leadership.
In the vote, the APC caucus voted in favour of the replacement of the Ndume.
Reacting to the development in a post via his social media page, Momodu, described the development as very sad and unfortunate, asking if the President is above criticism or advice by a ranking senator.
He wrote: “What manner of National Assembly is this!! So, PRESIDENT BOLA AHMED TINUBU cannot be criticized and advised by a ranking SENATOR… Very sad and unfortunate..,”
