The authorities of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have disclosed the sighting of the Dhul Hijjah crescent, heralding the beginning of the 12th Islamic month.
A message shared by Haramain, a Saudi-based online news platform, on X said Friday is the first day of Dhul Hijjah.
Dhul Hijjah is the 12th and final month of the Islamic lunar calendar, during which Muslims travel to Makkah for hajj.
The message showed that June 15 would be the day of Arafat, while June 16 would be the day of Eid-el-Adha, the biggest festival of Muslims worldwide.
Dhul Hijjah is seen as a sacred month and a time of heightened devotion, reflection, and acts of worship.
On Wednesday, the Sultan of Sokoto and president general of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar,asked Muslims in the country to look for the new moon of Dhul Hijja, 1445 AH.
A statement signed by chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council, Sambo Wali Junaidu said that Thursday is the 29th of Dhul’qidah 1445 AH.
