DSS says it didn’t invade Central Bank of Nigeria

The Department of State Services (DSS) has described reports that its operatives stormed the Abuja headquarters of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to arrest it governor, Godwin Emefiele as “fake news”.

The social media was Monday awash with reports that the DSS invaded the CBN headquarters in the Federal Capital Territory to arrest Emefiele over allegations of funding terrorism.

According to a statement signed by the spokesperson of DSS, Peter Afunanya, the body denied the claims.

“The attention of the Department of State Services (DSS) has been drawn to the false news making the round that its operatives invaded the Central Bank of Nigeria and arrested its Governor, today 16/1/23. This is fake news and quite misleading,” the statement reads.

Emefiele has returned to the country after completing his yearly vacation overseas.

The governor of the apex bank commenced his duties today.
