Ekima channels BBNaija heartbreaks into new single ‘My Vibe’

Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Ekima has released a new single titled “My Vibe” as a cathartic response to her disappointment at Big Brother Naija auditions.

In a press briefing to unveil her new songs, the rising star, known for her powerful vocals and captivating stage presence, revealed that she has been trying to get on the reality TV show since 2021.

Her first attempt was truncated by issues arising from her international passport.

“In 2023, after I had prepared to participate, they made it an all-star affair, and in 2024, they made it a duo entry, which was painful and depressing for someone like me who’s single. It’s sad enough to know you’re not in a relationship, now imagine how it feels when you’re denied participating in your dream reality show because you don’t have a romantic partner or someone you’ve built a relationship with over time that guarantees your winning,” she stated.

She added: “I shook off the disappointment and I made up my mind not to let the BBNaija disappointment kill my vibe.”

She was quick, however, to point out that “My Vibe” is not necessarily a song to prove a point but rather a motivational song for those going through the trauma of disappointment.
“The message of “My Vibe” is one of encouragement to young people to remain focused on their dreams and conquer the world,” she explained.

The Kogi-born songstress who has a musical background as a choir in the church since her childhood, has been living in Ghana since 2016 and has performed on the same stage with A-list artists like Medikal and Kelvyn Boy.
Her discography includes hit singles like “Twale Mama” and “Una,” as well as impressive covers of Ayra Starr and Rachael Platten.

Ekima’s unique blend of Afrobeat, Afro-Pop, Reggae, and R&B has garnered her a dedicated fanbase.

She dropped the new single on July 18, days before the Season 9 of the reality TV kicked off.
