Enyimba suffer shock defeat at Akwa Utd

Akwa Utd Rivers Utd up to third after beating Lobi

Akwa United produced the major shock result of the NPFL weekend after they stunned Enyimba 2-1 in Uyo, while title chasers Rivers United got back to winning ways, all thanks to a late winning goal against Lobi Stars.

Interestingly, Coach Kennedy Boboye got his first victory on his return to Akwa United and it was against nine-time champions of the Nigerian league Enyimba.

Olayemi Ogunleye put home side Akwa United ahead after 28 minutes, before Enyimba equalized in the 40th minute through Issah Mohammed.

Uche Sebastian won th game for ‘The Promise Keepers’ when he hit target in the 75th minute.

With the victory, Akwa United climbed to 18th position with 23 points from as many games.

They are two points from safety.

On th flip side, Lobi Stars, dropped to the bottom after losing at Rivers United.

Rivers had to wait until the 88th minute for Timothy Zachariah to net the winning goal.

The results takes Rivers Utd to third on the table with 38 points from 23 matches, 10 points behind leaders Remo Stars.

In other results, Abia Warriors romped to a 3-0 home victory over Sunshine Stars, while Niger Tornadoes and Bayelsa United were held to draws at home.

Niger Tornadoes played a 1-1 draw with Plateau United and Bayelsa United earned a goalless draw with reigning champions Enugu Rangers.
