Federal governnment orders closure of all polytechnics nationwide

For forthcoming presidential and governorship elections

With 13 days to go before the conduct of the much-anticipated presidential election, the federal government has ordered the closure of all polytechnics in the nation.

This is coming barely a week after the National Universities Commission (NUC) directed the closure of all universities in the country for the conduct of the presidential and governorship elections.

TMY Newspapers reports that the directive to shut all the polytechnics was issued minister of education, Adamu Adamu, through a correspondence signed by I.O Folorunsho on February 10.

According to the letter, made available to reporters on Monday, which was addressed to executive secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Idris Bugaje, Adamu said the directive should be conveyed to rectors and provosts of all polytechnics.

In view of concerns expressed on the security of staff, students, and properties of our respective institutions, the minister of education, Adamu Adamu, has, following extensive consultations with the relevant security agencies, directed that all polytechnics be shut down,” the letter reads.

And academic activities will be suspended between Wednesday, Feb.22 and Tues. March 14, 2023.”
