FG shares 20 trucks of rice to 36 states to tackle food shortage

The Federal Government says it has dispatched 20 trailer loads of 25kg rice to each of the 36 states and the Feferal Capital Territory (FCT), in order to address the challenge of food shortage in the country.

This was revealed on Monday by the Ministed of Information and National Orientation,  Mohammed Idris, while briefing journalists after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the State House, Abuja.

Idris said the bags of rice which had been received by state governments, are meant to be distributed among poor Nigerians.

“Each state of the Federation and the FCT have received  20 trucks of rice for onward distribution to the most vulnerable to ease the food shortage being experienced”, he said.

The minister also announced that another meeting will be held on Thursday between President Bola Tinubu and labour leaders to discuss issue of the new minimum wage for Nigerian workers.

He noted that the proposed meeting, which is a follow up to the one held between the president and labour leaders last week, will finalise discussions on the new minimum wage.
