Fubara replaces Wike’s men, swears in LG caretaker chairmen

Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has sworn in caretaker chairmen in all the 23 Local Government Council Areas in the state.

Fubara swore in the chairmen at the Council Chambers of Government House in the state capital, Port Harcourt, on Wednesday morning.

The caretaker chairmen were said to have been earlier screened by the faction of Rivers House of Assembly loyal to the governor.

The tenure of the former chairmen, who are loyal to the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, elapsed on Monday, June 17th.

The chairmen had attempted to continue in office, on the grounds that the pro-Wike faction of Rivers House of Assembly had extended their tenure by six months, over the failure of Fubara to conduct elections.

However, the governor directed them to hand over power to heads of administration, whom he asked to await further directives.

Fubara subsequently transmitted a list of caretaker chairmen to the assembly, which in turn cleared them.

There are still tension in some parts of the state, with armed youths loyal to the governor seen in a recent video chasing a vehicle said to be occupied by some of pro-Wike former chairmen .
