The African bounce back at the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Qatar continued on Monday as Ghana defeated South Korea 3-2, in an enthralling match loaded with twists and turns in the presence of a vibrant and jubilant crowd at Education City Stadium,
A 10-minute spell in the first half by the west African nation, who eliminated the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the final CAF qualification match, gave them a 2-0 lead courtesy of goals from Southampton defender Mohammed Salisu and Ajax’s Mohammed Kudus.
But noisy celebrations by Ghana fans at half time were thwarted by a South Korea comeback on resumption of the second half.
Two stunning headers in three minutes from Cho Gue-sung, the top scorer in the South Korean top flight restored parity after 61 minutes of the game.
ButGhana were not ready to be outdone as Kudus, who had deftly headed in Jordan Ayew’s cross in the first half, added a final twist when he scored Ghana’s third goal to break the hearts of South Koreans
Though South Korea continued to get chances to score their own third goal, even with 10 minutes of added time, the Black Stars of Ghana held on to claim an important victory and get their campaign back on track, after their opening day 3-2 loss to Portugal.
