House of Reps loses third lawmaker in three months
House of Representatives member representing Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency of Kaduna State, Ekene Abubakar Adams, is dead.
Ekene Adams, who was elected into the house during last year’s general elections under the platform of the Labour Party (LP) passed away on Tuesday at the age of 39.
Until his passing, the lawmaker was the chairman of the house committee on sports.
He was the General Manager of Kada City Football Club and Remo Stars at different times, before winning the ticket to the house of representatives.
In a statement, Akin Rotimi, spokesperson of the house, said the lawmaker was a “dedicated public servant, passionate sports administrator, and kind philanthropist”.
He said Adams was a “kind and gentle humanitarian, loved by all who knew him”, adding that his dedication to the development of grassroots sports in Nigeria was “unwavering” and that his contributions to the house will be deeply missed.
Adams’ passing come less than a week after the death of Olaide Adewale Akinremi, a member of the house of representatives, who represented Ibadan North Federal Constituency on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Akinremi died weeks after the demise of Isa Dogonyaro, a member of the house of representatives, who represented Babura/Garki Federal Constituency of Jigawa State.
Dogonyaro died in May after a brief illness.
Adams is the third member of the lower legislative chamber to die in 2024 and since May.
