Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze, has said he would like his compatriot, Victor Osimhen, to join AC Milan.
Osimhen has been in the news for most of the summer transfer window, due to the complexities surrounding his desire to leave Napoli.
The Nigerian international has a release clause of 130 million euros but no club in Europe has shown the desire to splash that much on him.
The reigning African player of the year struggled at Napoli last season, scoring only 15 goals in the Serie A. Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal and Chelsea have shown interest in the Eagles star but his the price tag appear to be unaffordable, with the clubs said to be considering other cheaper options.
With the new Italian league season set to kick off in less than two weeks, Osimhen’s future is not yet clear. Only clubs in Saudi Arabia are offering to pay what Napoli is demanding but the option is not an option for the former U-17 World Cup winner.
The strong bond between Osimhen and Chukwueze is well documented, with Osimhen playing a key role in advising his friend to join the Serie A giants when he was about to leave Villarreal CF.
“I’m here thanks to the affection of the fans and thanks to Osimhen,” Chukwueze told Milan TV after his move last summer.
“He (Osimhen) told me that Milan is a beautiful club, one of the best, and I should not hesitate to sign with them. He also said that they are fantastic and have wonderful fans.”
Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Chukwueze revealed that he has spoken to Osimhen about joining him at Milan, but acknowledges the move is challenging.
“I would like to close my eyes, open them again, and see him here at Milan. I always say to him: ‘Are you sure you don’t want to come?’ And he says: ‘Samuel, you know it’s difficult…’” Chukwueze said, as quoted by Pianetamilan.
Chelsea have pulled out of their chase to sign the Super Eagles attacker, focusing instead on closing a deal with Spanish-Nigerian attacker Samu Omorodion, leaving Paris Saint-Germain and Saudi Arabian clubs in the race for Osimhen.
