I’ve Never Slept With Anyone for a Movie Role — Mojisola Adebanjo

Mojisola Adebanjo has spoken candidly about the changing beauty standards in Nollywood, alleging that actresses with Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) procedures and curvier figures are increasingly being favoured for movie roles.

Speaking on the Conversations With Kenni podcast, the actress said she has no issue with cosmetic enhancement but believes the growing preference for curvier actresses has made the industry less equitable for others.

According to her, many producers now prioritise actresses with hourglass figures, a trend she says has personally affected her career.

“Men these days are naturally drawn to women with hourglass figures. I don’t think it’s a bad thing, but when the BBL is excessive, then I have an issue with it. Technically, most producers now favour curvy and BBL actresses over the rest of us. I have been a victim, and that experience left me in pain,” she said.

Adebanjo also maintained that she would never sacrifice her values for fame, revealing that she once rejected a movie role because it required her to portray a witch. She added that she would equally decline any role depicting her as a stripper.

“I’ve turned down the offer to play a witch before. Kudos to my colleagues who play that role perfectly; it’s not something I want to explore. I also don’t think I can play a stripper. Those are not the kinds of characters I want to portray,” she said.

The Haunted actress further dismissed the long-held belief that actresses must exchange sexual favours for movie opportunities, insisting that every role she has secured since joining Nollywood in 2019 has been based solely on merit.

She said she has never slept with anyone to land a role or dated anyone within the industry, adding that acting had already cost her a serious relationship because of the demands of the profession.

“I can beat my chest and say I have never slept with anyone for a movie role, and I never will. I’ve also never dated anyone in the industry. Many people assume actresses have men flocking around them, but that’s far from the truth. Acting cost me a serious relationship because of the nature of the job. Anyone who wants to be with me must understand that I won’t quit acting for a relationship. Acting is my career.”

On marriage, Adebanjo said she hopes to marry a hardworking, handsome and financially stable man, noting that she would not consider a partner who earns less than she does.

Beyond acting, the actress is expanding her career as a filmmaker. She revealed that her latest production, Ojo Coward, is a relationship drama that explores domestic violence, emotional abuse and the realities many women face in marriage.

According to her, the film is intended to encourage healthier relationships by highlighting the importance of mutual respect and empathy between spouses.
