Police Arrest Suspected Gang Linked to Robbery and Killings in Niger

The Niger State Police Command has announced the arrest of several suspects linked to different alleged criminal activities, including kidnapping, armed robbery and killings. The arrests were made during separate police operations across the state as security operatives intensified efforts to track down suspected criminal groups.

Among those arrested were three suspected members of a group allegedly operating under the guise of a Yan Sakai vigilante organisation. Police said the suspects were arrested on August 23 in Uraga village, Mariga Local Government Area, following intelligence reports about their alleged activities. Preliminary investigations indicated that the group was suspected of involvement in kidnapping and armed robbery operations.

Police further alleged that the group was connected to the deaths of at least three victims during kidnapping operations and the theft of motorcycles belonging to victims. Investigators also reportedly recovered a pump-action firearm during a search, while efforts continue to locate other suspected members of the group and individuals allegedly connected to the disposal of stolen property.

In a separate development, police arrested several suspects in connection with the killing of 35-year-old Nafiu Mohammed in the Sabon-Titi area of Maitumbi, Minna. The arrests followed an investigation into the incident, while police said another suspect identified during the investigation was still being sought.

The Niger State Police Command said investigations into all the cases are ongoing and that suspects would face prosecution after investigations are completed. The series of arrests reflects continuing efforts by security agencies to address violent crime and other criminal activities across Niger State.
