Lagos Court Remands Three Over Alleged Arms Importation
Suspects to remain in custody for 15 days as Customs investigates firearms allegedly concealed in shipping container

A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the remand of three suspects arrested by the Nigeria Customs Service over the alleged unlawful importation of pump-action rifles into Nigeria. The suspects are Kenneth Mbonu, Kenneth Agwu and Choima Onuoha.
Justice Friday Ogazi ordered that the three suspects be held in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service for 15 days, pending the conclusion of investigations. The case was adjourned until September 1, 2026, for a report on the investigation or possible arraignment.
According to Customs, the firearms and ammunition were allegedly concealed inside a container marked TEMU 184536/9, which arrived in Nigeria aboard MV VELIKA on July 8, 2026. Officers reportedly examined the container on July 13 after receiving intelligence and allegedly discovered the weapons, leading to the arrest of the three suspects.
Customs further alleged that the suspects provided information linking other individuals to the alleged forgery and manipulation of Customs records used to facilitate the removal of the container. The agency said investigations were ongoing and that releasing the suspects could interfere with efforts to apprehend other persons and recover evidence. The allegations have not been proven in court.
