Lagos gears up as eight teams set to participate in Nathaniel Ogedegbe’s U-12 tourney

Eight young football teams will light up Lagos this month for the second edition of Nathaniel Ogedegbe Under-10/12 football tournament billed to hold at Sonibare Stadium in Surulere, Lagos State.

The competiton, inspired to develop the “love for the game”, among emerging football talents, is sponsored by former Nigeria international, Nathaniel Ogedegbe, under the banner of NOSF-Flawless Soccer in Virginia, United States of America.

The 7-Aside youth tournament is divided into two categories. The U-10 teams will battle between December 7 and 8 by 4pm on both days, while the U-12 sides will lock horns on December 17 and 18 by 9am.

The competition offers exciting football talents in Nigeria the opportunity to showcase their skills, learn from each other and develop passion for the sport.

Having played for Saint Finbarr’s College and Lagos Academicals during his formative years, Ogedegbe said the youth competition is a way of giving back to the society where he honed his football skills, and to also bring to bear his wealth of experience as a footballer and youth coach, with the aim of helping to identify and nurture young talents.

The former Flying Eagles star attended and played for St Finbarr’s College, Yaba, Lagos.
He was the captain of the school football team before being selected to play for the first U-20 national team. Ogedegbe was then drafted to play for the-then Green Eagles, alongside late former coach of the Super Eagles, Stephen Keshi, and Henry Nwosu.

Afterwards, Ogedegbe was recruited from Nigeria to join the US men’s soccer programme in 1981.

While at Alabama A&M University, he received several personal recognitions, including being inducted into the Alabama Hall of Fame in 2013.

Currently, Ogedegbe is the Director of Flawless Soccer in the US; a part time pursuit for the former Green Eagle, who is a civil engineer.
