Marca: Milan surprised Atletico by paying Morata’s clause

According to Marca, Atletico Madrid were surprised to see Milan pay a €13m clause to sign Alvaro Morata, as the Rossoneri had not informed the Colchoneros.

Milan have just announced the purchase of Alvaro Morata from Atletico Madrid. The Spanish forward has signed a four-year deal with an option for a further campaign and will wear the No.7 at San Siro this season.

The Serie A giants paid the striker’s €13m clause to bring him back to Serie A after a four-year spell at Juventus, but according to Marca, the Rossoneri’s move surprised Atletico Madrid, who expected to be directly informed by the Italian side.

On the contrary, according to the report, the only communication came from Morata, who said goodbye to club directors and his Atletico teammates on Tuesday, the day of his medical tests with Milan.

The 31-year-old striker is now on holiday and will join his new teammates in August.
