Ndume rejects office allocation after removal as Chief Whip by APC
Senator representing Borno South Senatorial District, Ali Ndume, has rejected a new office allocated to him.
Ndume was removed as the senate Chief Whip on July 17, by his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The APC accused Ndume of making unguided comments against the administration of President Bola Tinubu, over the handling of the affairs of the country.
After his removal as chief whip, Ndume has since been appointed as the Senate Committee Chairman on Tourism, which he has rejected.
In a letter read on the floor of the senate by president Godswill Akpabio, the ruling party also asked him to resign from the party, and he was replaced with Tahir Monguno, another senator representing Borno North, as the senate chief whip.
However, Ndume disclosed that the new office does not reflect his seniority and status as a high-ranking member of the upper legislative chamber.
In a statement on Tuesday, Yati Shuaibu Gawu, an aide to Ndume, said the senator should occupy an office on the fourth floor of the national assembly complex against the third floor he was given.
“I am directed to inform you that Distinguished Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume has rejected the allocation of office number 3.10 by the committee,” the statement reads.
“This is because offices are traditionally allocated on a seniority basis.
“Sen. Ndume is the most senior senator after Sen. Ahmad Lawan and will only occupy an office on the fourth floor.”
