Netherlands secure Group A top spot with 2-0 win over Qatar

Netherlands have qualified for the last 16 of the World Cup, with a comfortable 2-0 victory over hosts Qatar in their final Group A game.

Striker Cody Gakpo continued his fine scorning form at the ongoing tournament for the Dutch to propel them in front against the hosts, who were already out of the tournament, after suffering two losses to Ecuador and Senegal.

Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong netted the second goal for the Oranjes when he tapped in a rebound from Memphis Depay’s saved shot.

The three points guaranteed the Netherlands ended their group campaign on top spot and will be odds on favourite to go far in the competition.

Qatar bowed of the tournament at the group stage with zero points, bottom of the group and with their tail firmly between their legs, showing that they are just starting as far as football is concerned.
