Niger govt goes tough on motorcycle riders , Keke NAPEP over insecurity

The Niger State Government has imposed a curfew on commercial motorcycle operators (Okada riders) and Keke NAPEP drivers in Minna, the state capital, from 6 pm to 6 am daily.

Bago also directed security operatives to arrest persons wearing dreadlocks in the state.

Governor Mohammed Umar Bago disclosed the decision during a meeting with stakeholders, citing the need to tackle insecurity in the state capital, which has caused the loss of lives.

In the words of the governor, “Only those on serious medical attention are exempted from the ban on Okada and Keke NAPEP movements,” as the safety of the lives of Nigerlites and those residing in the state is of great importance to his government.

He warned that anyone found carrying weapons would be treated as an armed robber, and any move to harass security personnel on duty would be viewed as an affront on the Niger State Government.

Also, Bago directed security agencies to arrest individuals with dreadlocks, have their hair barbed, and impose fines as a deterrent.

“Anybody that you find with dreadlocks, arrest, barb the hair, and fine the person,”said the governor.

“Nobody should carry any kind of haircut inside Minna. I have given marching orders to security agencies.”

He also urged parents to warn their children on violating the order, as anyone found wanting would face the full force of the law.

“it is going to be 100 per cent enforcement that is fire for fire as enough is enough.”
