Nigeria’s event industry has boomed in recent years, experiencing significant growth and solidifying its place as a major contributor to the country’s economic and social development.
One individual who has carved a niche for herself in the industry is Faith Kimberly Ogie, the founder of Kim Luxe Events. Armed with over ten years of experience in the industry, Kimberly notes that Nigerians have increasingly embraced the events planning industry.
She said: “Nigerians have increasingly embraced the events planning industry, which has seen significant growth driven by cultural celebrations. Nigeria’s diverse cultural landscape offers a rich tapestry of events, including weddings, birthdays, traditional ceremonies, and corporate events.”
“These occasions are often elaborate, underscoring the importance of celebrating milestones and cultural heritage. The expanding middle class in Nigeria has also contributed to increased spending on luxury goods and services, including event planning. Families and individuals invest in creating memorable experiences by hiring professional planners to ensure well-organized and stylish events.
“Social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok have played a significant role in showcasing elaborate Nigerian events, influencing trends and expectations. These platforms serve as powerful marketing tools for event planners to display their portfolios and attract clients. As the industry matures, there is a growing emphasis on professionalism, standards, and certifications. Professional associations and training programs have emerged to enhance skills and promote best practices among event planners in Nigeria.”
“Despite challenges such as competition, regulatory issues, and economic factors, the enthusiasm and creativity displayed by Nigerian event planners, along with the growing demand for well-executed events, indicate a robust and promising future for the industry.”
Shedding light on the challenges facing the industry, Kimberly , who studied Accounting at Benson Idahosa University and proceeded to earn a Master’s degree in Accounting from Igbinedion University, said: “The Nigerian events planning industry is vibrant and growing but faces several challenges. There is a shortage of skilled event planners with formal training and experience, impacting service quality and limiting industry growth. Economic instability, including fluctuating exchange rates and inflation, affects client budgets and spending on events. ”
“Event planners must navigate these uncertainties and adapt pricing strategies to remain competitive. Vendor reliability is crucial due to issues like late delivery and substandard quality. Security concerns in certain regions deter clients and guests, requiring adequate measures and contingency plans. Meeting sophisticated client expectations for unique experiences demands effective communication and careful planning. Addressing these challenges requires stakeholder collaboration, regulatory improvements, infrastructure investment, professional development, and market adaptation. Despite these hurdles, the Nigerian events planning industry continues to grow, driven by a resilient entrepreneurial spirit and increasing demand for memorable events.”
When asked if it is possible to be a multifaceted business person, she said: “Yes, it’s possible to become a multifaceted business person today. With diverse skills and adaptability, individuals can navigate various sectors. My journey began with a passion for creativity in fashion, expanded into event planning, and later into interior decoration. Each step focused on excellence, creativity, and client preferences, showcasing the integration of diverse disciplines.”
Faith Kimberly Ogie’s journey stands as a testament to the potential within Nigeria’s event planning industry, demonstrating how dedication, innovation, and a commitment to quality can drive success in a rapidly evolving landscape.
