Onyeka Onwenu: Genevieve Nnaji, Victoria Nwogu write touching tributes
Onwenu, who also graced TV screens with her acting skills, was sorely missed by many of her actor friends
Following the burial of the late musician, Onyeka Onwenu, tributes have continued to flood in from well-meaning Nigerians, her colleagues, friends, and fans.
Onwenu, who also graced TV screens with her acting skills, was sorely missed by many of her actor friends, including Genevieve Nnaji and Victoria Nwogu, who both portrayed her daughters in different movies.
“Today, we mourn the passing of an icon, a legend whose voice and presence have resonated deeply with us all-Onyeka Onwenu.
I’m better at expressing myself through my art. “Lionheart” was born out of a desire to honor and give flowers to the legends that made my childhood beautiful and memorable, whilst they were still with us. I’m so grateful she accorded me the opportunity, honor and privilege to share time and space with her. We created iconic moments that will forever be entrenched In my mind and photo memories.
My tears won’t stop falling because writing this tribute means I can’t live In delusion for a few more hours. That this Is not a bad dream I’ll be waking up from. My heart and deepest condolences to her family, loved ones and to her fans all around the world.
Rest in peace, Onyeka Onwenu.
Your legacy will never be forgotten. 🤍🕊️” With all my love and respect,
Genevieve Nnaji.
Victoria Nwogu wrote: “There are no words to describe this loss. It took us unawares.
I feel honoured to have had the chance to play your on-screen daughter.
I knew your name growing up, what a ground breaker you were.
“I remember the first day I saw you on set, I was extremely nervous to come say hello to you, I almost fainted out of excitement.
Elegant Stallion, a befitting name. Your Stallion stamina spanned over 4 decades, your last moments were spent doing what you did best, entertaining and advocating, a performer all the way to her finger tips. Your legacy should be studied for generations to come.
“Your mentorship was mostly firm and clear and it helped my confidence. You were supportive and very generous with compliments when I did something well.
I am already used to having an NLC Activist as a Mother, so when I had the opportunity to become your mentee, I felt the powerful spirit I was already familiar with.
You used your last breathe of years to pass a message about the Girl Child In our film IJE AWELE.
“Hmmmm! I remember bumping Into you months after our shoot at a bank, My phone rang and I heard, look to your left, the next thing that followed was a scream. You were already starring at me smiling, with your steeze and composure on lock.
Everyone looked and wondered who could be this chilled with a Big Fish legend..
Thank you for your beauty, Brilliance, Grace, Boldness, and Legacy that will continue to Inspire Us. A National treasure🇳🇬.
Fly high Mama Onyeka Onwenu. With Love.
Victoria Nwogu.”
